Frida Kahlo: An Illustrated Life Details

Review "Despite the often light mood of the artwork, the book never shies from weighty consideration of the physical pain and personal loss that gave way—in fleeting but significant moments—to Kahlo’s artistic triumph." (Publisher's Weekly 2018-08-20)"Hesse’s drawings, which include reinterpretations of some of Kahlo’s most famous paintings, are simple and charming, and the text introduces a welcome level of complexity to Kahlo’s life that is often missing from the popular narrative." (Pasatiempo 2018-08-31)"A vibrantly illustrated biography of Kahlo. . . [Hesse's] drawings and graphics [flow] seamlessly with the narration." (Houston Chronicle 2018-09-17) Read more About the Author María Hesse is an illustrator and graphic designer. the artwork in this book is so clever, beautiful, & engaging. for anyone who is already a frida kahlo fan, all the biographical details are a given. what is wonderful is the various ways the illustrator/artist of this book chose to honor frida & her art. the picture of frida as a child with her imaginary friend is stunning. the suicide picture is genius.
