There is a kind of saga in the narrative of this Playboy book, across the decades and across the centerfolds somehow you can taste the advancement of time and the changes not only in aesthetic preferences but mainly in generational changes:- We start with the tranquil and classy 50's. The playmates seems to cross the pinup art to our reality, At first, as the Marilyn Monroe photograph shows, in almost abstract surroundings and bit by bit they go outside to our world as if at least the society would be accepting the idea of intimacy beyond the fantasy or the secret as something that exists in our days and nights.- Perhaps my favorite age: the revolutionary and freedom of 60's. The aesthetic, the haircuts, the shapes, everything is quite American (at least how I understand US from Peru), the playmates are girls that enjoy to be free beyond the rooms and now openly at society, there is even something quite musical in their way to smile and to pose as some party melody playing in the backgrounds.- After the revolution comes its establishment as the norm in the 70's. It is like a prolongation of the 60's and now the playmates enjoy the light outdoors, the tones are golden and the feeling of frenzied times or revolt are changed by the establishment of a new colorful time, it seems happier.- The 80's, the years of my childhood, instead to me are strange, feels like a decade where people didn't know what to do so the fluffy haircuts and the dresses with strange designs mirror that confusion. Perhaps there was no an easy way to that generation to be themselves but with exceptions that look not the common traditional 80's this decade is still beyond my understanding in its choice of aesthetic. In this decade the shame of the 50's to show the pubic hair and the whole anatomy is a tale of another world. The body is free of guilt.- The end of millennium is close so the 90's are full of optimism about the future that before was a distant wish of "how is it going to be?" to a "we are almost there", In this decade the playmates have a classy elegance and seductive confidence. We recover the beauty of the girls hidden by they haircut styles of 80's but somehow I see this optimism make the portraits a tad more professional and a bit less playful as before, as if the playmates were a bit afar. Not like the 60's where they seemed to be with us in our living rooms. Perhaps is the ascension of the playmates to goddesses.- It came the new millennium and with it we knew the future was actually the same thing so as we didn't know how to be the melancholy of old ages came again. I cannot avoid to think if in those digital years with the easiness of manipulation and the almost mandatory use of silicones reverted the playmates to the early 50's nature of almost a beauty of illustrative pinup and not of the real women living in our real world. I don't know which are the politics of Playboy about it but nevertheless the playmates are as always quite beautiful.The success of Playboy was replicated and imitated around the world and it was needed a magazine for men with clever articles for the modern man, as the smart prologues to each decade expose Playboy created and contributed something without it our world could not be. I believe the playmates show us a kind of history of who we are and why we are different, at least free of codes that have should evolve with the persons and not restrict us, and with that the right of a girl to be sexy or seductive if she wants.Said that this book would be five stars if it were not for the Kindle edition. I tried to read it in my windows 2-in-1 laptop but the format simply doesn't allow me to see one of each two photos in normal size, it is stubborn to be fixated in a stamp size. So I went to my Kindle Fire HD6 tablet, 32gb model, and fortunately there I can expand each image to a better appreciation (and you understand that with so beautiful girls you really want to see) but there are errors to download, I had to delete a lot and even so it seemed to occupy a lot of storage. Two years didn't displayed so I opted in two years to search in internet, so what had been one of the most enjoyable readings got spoiled by the difficulty to actually read it. :l
